Seña was conceived not merely as a wine, but as a statement of intent. In 1995, Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi set out to demonstrate that Chile could produce a wine worthy of comparison with the world’s greatest icons. This was not about imitation, but about revealing Chile’s own capacity for finesse, depth, and longevity.
The vineyards lie in the Aconcagua Valley, a landscape defined by contrast and balance. Warm days ensure full phenolic ripeness, while cool nights—driven by Pacific breezes and Andean influences—preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The soils are poor and well drained, naturally limiting vigor and yields, encouraging deep root systems and concentration without excess. Since 2005, the estate has been farmed biodynamically, reinforcing a living ecosystem where soil health, vine balance, and long-term sustainability are central to quality. This environment shapes Seña’s style: structured yet vibrant, powerful yet restrained.
Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone of the blend, supported by Carmenère and other Bordeaux varieties depending on the vintage. Winemaking favors precision over force—gentle extraction, carefully judged oak, and a clear emphasis on balance. Seña is built for time, not immediacy, and its evolution in bottle is a defining part of its identity.
The turning point came in 2004, with the Berlin Tasting, where Seña was tasted blind against some of Bordeaux’s most prestigious First Growths. Its performance challenged long-held perceptions and marked a decisive moment in the global recognition of Chilean fine wine. What had been a vision became a validated reality.
Today, Seña stands as a benchmark of South American fine wine. Scarce by nature, consistent in quality, and increasingly liquid on the secondary market, it embodies the convergence of terroir, vision, and historical significance—qualities that define wines sought not only to be enjoyed, but to be collected and held.

About the producer: Seña
Seña, An Inspiring Journey - 25th Anniversary
The Elegant Ambition of Chilean Fine Wine
Viña Seña is one of Chile’s most emblematic fine-wine estates, created in 1995 as a bold joint venture between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi. From the outset, the ambition was clear: to craft a world-class wine capable of standing alongside the greatest First Growths of Bordeaux.
Located in the Aconcagua Valley, Seña pioneered a new vision for Chilean fine wine, combining a Bordeaux-inspired blend with a deep respect for place. Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone, supported by Carmenère, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, depending on the vintage.
Since 2005, the estate has been farmed biodynamically, reinforcing its focus on balance, precision, and terroir expression. Seña is not about power alone—it is about elegance, freshness, and long-term ageing potential. Today, it stands as a benchmark for South American fine wine and a symbol of Chile’s arrival on the global fine-wine stage.

This concept expands on the traditional En Primeur model, which originated in Bordeaux, offering a bold new avenue for wine investment and appreciation.
Whilst En Primeur enables the purchase of wines typically 8 to 18 months following the current vintage (depending on the region), Grand Primeur extends this considerably further. This model allows you to secure exceptional wines directly from producers up to 10 years in advance—before the grapes are even harvested.
Purchasing Grand Primeur wines carries the inherent risk that a vintage may not be produced. This can occur due to adverse weather conditions or when the producer determines that the wine does not meet their exacting quality standards. In such cases, both producers and Cellaris guarantee that buyers will automatically receive an equivalent allocation from the next available vintage produced by the same estate.
